在不久的将来，美国的一家国际技术公司发明了一种时间穿梭工具，可以将现代人送到几百年前的过去。这家公司的总裁多尼格(大卫.休里斯 饰)出资帮助耶鲁大学的一个考古小组，到法国多尔多涅河一带挖掘考察中世纪的一座城堡，目的是通过对古代遗迹的真实重现，来建造前所未有的超真实娱乐公园。野心勃勃的多尼格，最后竟然利用他们发明的时间穿梭工具，将考古小组的教授、历史学家爱德华·约翰逊(比尔·康诺利 饰)，送回到了1357年(中世纪)的法国。那时的法国正处于金戈铁马的动荡年代，约翰逊教授被城堡主人奥利弗·德万斯勋爵俘获，他要求约翰逊助制造新式的火药武器，以保卫他的加德堡和拉罗克堡。这时，奥利弗的敌人、叛军首领阿尔诺.德塞沃利正带领他的叛乱骑士，攻打这两座城堡。教授的性命危在旦夕，拯救教授的重担顺理成章地落在了他的学生身上。同时，教授突然神秘失踪，也令他的学生滿头雾水疑心重重，恰好这时他们在废墟里发现了教授的破碎镜片，和他在600年前写的“救救我”的字条。于是，一队精通中世纪风士人情的耶鲁学生，通过国际技术公司的传输技术来到了1357年的法国多尔多涅，决定救出教授。这群学生是教授的三个得意...
