1935年5月，中国工农红军长征的队伍来到金沙江到大渡河之间的天险纵横的重叠山川中。数十万国民党中央军和军阀武装围追堵截，蒋介石的座机也飞临川军首脑驻地，两种决定中国命运的力量对峙着……毛泽东、周恩来、朱德、刘伯承等同志部署了佯攻大树堡、暗渡安顺场的战斗。红军进入冕宁县城后，严格执行党的民族政策，释放了被反动政权拘押的群众，使这片彝族聚居地区，成为红军走向胜利的通衢。先遣团迅速夺取了安顺场渡口，17位勇士孤舟奋勇，直扑对岸守敌。老谋深算的蒋介石也迅速调整了部署，调集部队左右夹击安顺场，妄图半渡而击，将渡河的红军分割围歼，扬言要红军重蹈石达开的覆辙。毛主席等首长及时变通部署，将计就计，一面继续造成在安顺场涉渡的假象，一面另辟泸定桥为强渡点。之后，又以刘伯承佯攻雅安，作直取成都状，迷乱了川军，调开了固守泸定的川军二0八旅。蒋介石察觉了真相后，恼羞成怒，走马换将，令新任川军司令何湘辉火速调二0八旅回援泸定。这时，我左路部队已占领桥头，攀着十三根凌空摇荡的铁索向左岸突击。当蒋介石打电话训示右岸守敌时，接电话的已是红军战士小张……毛主席安步走下泸定桥头，对身边的战友们说："梦想我们当石达开...
